Southern Research, Birmingham, AL
Available immediately, postdoctoral opportunity in drug discovery and innovative cancer research, to target constitutively expressed oncogenes, and/or key downstream targets or regulators of their aberrant proliferative phenotype. Research currently uses the model of colon cancer and focuses on: 1) constitutive GLI activation as a nodal point of convergence for oncogenic signaling pathways (HH-GLI, KRAS-GLI), a critical therapeutic target in cancers; 2) mechanisms of GLI-dependent: transcriptional inhibition, DNA licensing, DNA damage, and cell death; 3) drug discovery for small molecule inhibitors that target specific proteins with specific binding and mechanistic properties, within this research framework. The drug discovery initiative will be linked to mechanism-based studies in the areas outlined. The position requires a working knowledge of the Schrodinger or equivalent platform(s) of computational biology analysis of small molecule-protein interaction, as well as expertise in cell and molecular biology, and drug discovery. Successful candidates should possess a PhD degree in molecular biology, cell biology or relevant scientific discipline with experience in cancer related research. PhD candidates obtaining their diploma in 2017 may be considered, however, the PhD must be awarded before employment can commence. Interested candidates should submit a CV, description of research interests, technical skills, past projects and publications, and contact information for three references. Apply directly at www.southernresearch.org.
This position serves as a research trainee for the purpose of enhancing and developing research competencies. In this appointment, the postdoctoral researcher will participate in planning, designing and conducting highly technical and complex research projects under the supervision of a Principal Investigator to include analyzing research data, providing interpretations, contributing to the development of research documentation for publications, grant applications, and/or providing technical reports, papers and/or records.
